NSG/557 asks the nurse leader to see an organization as a system and to lead change within it. Here the course is covered in six samples, beginning with systems thinking and organizational structure through culture, change models and resistance to an evaluation of a change's effect on care delivery.

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your classroom and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. NSG/557 is Phoenix’s Organizational Dynamics and Systems Thinking course. It focuses on organizational effectiveness and systems management, the nurse leader's role during organizational change and the effect of change on health care delivery, with principles and models of change explored. What NSG/557 is really about

NSG/557 is built around two ideas. The first is systems thinking: an organization's results come from how its parts interact, so a problem on one unit may be produced by decisions made elsewhere, and a fix in one place may cause trouble in another. The early weeks usually examine organizational structure, culture and effectiveness through that lens, asking students to analyze a real organization, often their own, and to trace a persistent problem to its system causes.

The second idea is change. The official description names principles and models of change and the nurse leader's role during change, so the middle and later weeks compare models such as Lewin's three stages, Kotter's eight steps and Rogers's diffusion of innovations, examine resistance and how leaders respond to it, and ask how change affects care delivery for patients and staff. The course often closes with a change plan or an evaluation of a change the organization has made.

What NSG/557’s assessments ask for

The graded work expects analysis that crosses boundaries. A systems paper should show how parts interact, with feedback loops or causal diagrams where useful, not a list of departments. When a change model is used, instructors expect it applied stage by stage to the specific change, with actions for each stage. Resistance should be analyzed by its sources, such as loss of status, workload or fear, with responses that fit each. APA 7 and leadership and organizational literature, with primary sources for the models, are expected.

Where students lose points in NSG/557

Points are lost when a change model is summarized rather than applied. Writing out Kotter's eight steps and then describing a change without mapping it to them wastes the model. The other loss is ignoring the system: proposing a unit-level fix to a problem whose cause lies in scheduling, supply or another department. Students who draw the system first and apply the model second avoid both.

Using a NSG/557 sample the right way

Describe your organization and the change you have in mind, and a first sample tackling a similar system problem is free within two days. Read it to see a system drawn before a fix is proposed and a change model applied stage by stage to one real change. Then analyze your own organization with the same discipline.

NSG/557 questions, answered

What is systems thinking in health care?

An approach that looks at how parts of an organization interact to produce results, so problems are traced to relationships and feedback loops rather than blamed on one person or unit.

Which change model should I use?

The one that fits the change. Lewin's model suits a clear change with a defined end, Kotter's suits large organizational change needing broad support, and diffusion of innovations suits a practice spreading through a group.

How should resistance to change be handled?

By finding its source. Resistance from workload calls for resources, resistance from fear calls for information and involvement, and resistance from lost status calls for new roles. One response does not fit all.
